Born in 1953, Malcolm Goodman was educated at school in Hull and King's College
Choir School Cambridge, and subsequently undertook formal instrumental studies
at the Royal College of Music in London, gaining the ARCM performer's diploma
in 1975.
As
a professional musician, his career began as co-principal horn of the Central
Band of the Royal Air Force in 1975. However, he subsequently left the Royal Air
Force in 1979 to undertake an appointment as Company Director of a small family
business, thereby enabling a freelance orchestral career to also be pursued.
During
these intervening years he became a founding charity trustee of the National Association
of Youth Orchestras, eventually serving almost 25 years as the charity's Honorary
Course Administrator for their Anglo-German Youth Music Week.
During
the 1980's, voluntary activities were further extended to include a period of
10 years service with the Nottinghamshire Constabulary as a Special Constable,
whilst also serving as a committee member of the Consumer Standards Advisory Council
for the British Standards Institute, as well as having an associated advisory
role for the BBC Watchdog programme.
