 Malcolm Goodman

Born in 1953, Malcolm Goodman was educated at school in Hull and King's College Choir School Cambridge, and subsequently undertook formal instrumental studies at the Royal College of Music in London, gaining the ARCM performer's diploma in 1975.

As a professional musician, his career began as co-principal horn of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force in 1975. However, he subsequently left the Royal Air Force in 1979 to undertake an appointment as Company Director of a small family business, thereby enabling a freelance orchestral career to also be pursued.

During these intervening years he became a founding charity trustee of the National Association of Youth Orchestras, eventually serving almost 25 years as the charity's Honorary Course Administrator for their Anglo-German Youth Music Week.

During the 1980's, voluntary activities were further extended to include a period of 10 years service with the Nottinghamshire Constabulary as a Special Constable, whilst also serving as a committee member of the Consumer Standards Advisory Council for the British Standards Institute, as well as having an associated advisory role for the BBC Watchdog programme.

In 1990 he returned to his former musical career with the Royal Air Force to undertake a posting with the Western Band of the Royal Air Force at RAF Locking near Weston-super-Mare, and subsequently undertook 'active service' with colleagues at Al Jubayl during the Gulf War. Upon closure of the Western Band in 1999, he was posted to RAF Cranwell where he served as principal horn with the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment and Public Relations and Marketing Manager for the Royal Air Force Music Services.

Malcolm Goodman founded the Lincolnshire Philharmonia Orchestra (The Orchestra of Royal Air Force Cranwell), the Lincolnshire Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Air Force Music Charitable Trust, and was awarded the MBE in the 2001 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to music.

Following retirement from the RAF in 2006 he was appointed as Music School Manager at Uppingham School.
